Looking for expert, tailored Cambridge IGCSE support?
My name is Emily Rose Bone and I am the creator of ExamStep. As a fully qualified British secondary teacher, I have extensive experience helping international students succeed in their IGCSEs. I specialise in CAIE English as well as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Currently, I lead the curricula for these subjects at a COBIS-accredited British international school in Europe. I teach students from a range of backgrounds, including those with SEND and additional learning needs.
My wide subject expertise allows me to make meaningful links between topics, helping students develop a deeper understanding across disciplines and build transferable thinking skills that support exam success and boost confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is a trial lesson?
A free trial lesson is a 30-minute introductory session where we get to know each other and discuss learning goals. Parents are encouraged to attend. It’s a chance for you and your child to experience my style, ask questions, and see if tutoring feels like a good fit. I’ll also use the session to suggest a personalised plan going forward.
You are also welcome to get in touch using our contact form if you would like to ask any questions before booking a trial lesson.
What is your teaching style like?
I am patient, clear, and structured, with a warm approach. I take time to build genuine rapport and create a positive learning environment. I’m not afraid to laugh or bring a little lightness into lessons to boost confidence and reduce stress. I use evidence-based teaching strategies such as explicit instruction, scaffolding, and regular feedback, always adapting to what each learner needs - whether that’s a challenge, encouragement, or a different way of looking at the material.
How do you support learners who have SEND or EAL needs?
I tailor every session to meet the individual needs of my students, including those with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) or EAL (English as an Additional Language).
For SEND students, I provide scaffolded tasks, clear visual organisers, and step-by-step instruction. I often use structured templates, sentence starters, and dual coding (combining words and visuals) to reduce cognitive load. Lessons are paced appropriately, with regular check-ins to ensure understanding and build confidence.
For EAL learners, I use accessible language, pre-teach key vocabulary, and incorporate speaking and listening opportunities into every session. I also make use of visual aids, models, and real-life examples to support comprehension. Grammar and language development are embedded into the subject content where needed.
Above all, I maintain a calm, patient, and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes - because that’s how real learning happens.
Do you tutor students following other exam boards?
While I specialise in Cambridge IGCSE, I’m very familiar with other UK and international exam boards (such as AQA, OCR and Edexcel) and happily adapt materials to suit different syllabi. If you're interested in support for a different qualification, feel free to get in touch.
Do you work with younger learners or KS3 students?
Yes. I enjoy working with younger students, especially those looking to build strong foundations in English or Science before beginning their exam courses. Please use the regular IGCSE booking link and mention the year group or level when booking.
Do you set homework?
Homework is optional but recommended. It will be discussed and decided upon in the trial lesson. Tasks are most likely to include exam-style questions, as these are the most effective way to reinforce key skills and prepare for assessment. Depending on individual needs, I may also set short writing tasks or review exercises to consolidate learning.
Why do you need my payment details for a free trial?
The trial lesson is completely free, and you won’t be charged. We simply use your details to reserve your slot and ensure commitment, as spaces are limited. You’re free to cancel or reschedule before the session without any cost.
What is your booking policy?
When you book a lesson, you agree to the following Terms & Conditions:
Lessons take place on Zoom.
To cancel or reschedule a session, please contact us at least 24 hours in advance. Cancellations to paid lessons made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged a flat no-show fee of 20€. If you miss a free trial without 24 hours’ notice, the free offer is no longer available and you will only be accepted for bookings through the regular tutoring options. This is because a missed session takes up a reserved time slot that could have been offered to another student.
If the tutor needs to cancel, as much notice as possible will be given and a replacement session offered.
Sessions will start and end at the agreed time. If a student is late, the session will still end at the scheduled time and will not be extended.
Students are responsible for ensuring they have a stable internet connection and a quiet workspace. Technical issues on the student’s side will not warrant a refund.
All personal information is treated confidentially and in line with GDPR.
After booking, you’ll receive a confirmation email with this policy alongside the session link.
